AMSTERDAM Coco's Outback, http://www.cocosoutback.com Thorbeckeplein 12/1, Amsterdam (NH), tel: +31 (0)20-6272423. General manager is Eric Kuindersma. Large bar with large variety of draft beer, as well as VB and other Aussie beers in bottles.Menu includes Aussie burgers (yes! with beetroot!). Up to 670 people for drinks, 200 for dining. You can subscribe to their sports and specials newsletter, to keep you updated on all the sports for Australian Ex-pats that they air on a weekly basis.

APELDOORN Finnegan's Irish pub & restaurant http://www.finnegans.nl/ Yes, I know its an IRISH restaurant, but the Aussie manager Roman Krebs regularly holds Aussie events. In June 2003 they hosted an Aussie Food month, and the menu included roo steaks, croc stew & barramundi, and they even had VB!

BREDA Walkabout New Aussie bar and eatery in Breda run by Wout, 'a Dutch bloke who lived in Oz for a while'. Quite roomy, and the grub includes Aussie burgers, roo steaks and MEAT PIES! Prices are low, as they have a large student clientele. The booze includes Crown Lager, XXXX, Fosters and... YES! VB! Also Aussie wines. The place looks like an outback homestead and inside is nicely done with lots of oz artifacts. BUT! Hardly anybody speaks English, the owner is Malaysian, and it's expensive. An "original australian meat pie" for €;5.70 - small but looking good - was hot but a watery meat mash, nothing like an aussie meat pie at all! Only other good point: could book an outside grill and have a barbie at a place similar to an Aussie pub.'

GIETHOORN Down Under Peter Steeg 3a, Giethoorn. No other details - but a huge Aussie flag was spotted stretched out on the lawn. Anyone with further clues?

The owner lived in Australia for many years, and he has recreated an 'indoor Bondi Beach'! See the website for pics. Good place to throw a beach party (at least you can be sure of good weather)

MAASTRICHT The Great Australian Bite http://www.netad.nl/australianbite/ actually in Renem-Lanaken in Belgium, on the N78 from Maastricht. Built like an old Aussie homestead with verandahs, and paddocks beyond that. Large choice of Aussie beers and wines. They claim to use only Aussie and NZ ingredients, and the menu includes roo, emu, croc, camel, yabbies, barramundi, NZ lamb and Aussie beef. Also have summer barbies where you cook it yourself. Not cheap but said to be good!

NIJMEGEN Billabong Café Restaurant http://www.billabong.nl/ van Welderenstraat 126, Nijmegen (Gld), tel: 024-3482848, open 365 days, Aussie co-owner Geoff who is very enthusiastic about organising an Aussie event. They host dance parties, and they can make MEAT PIES!

Australian Ice-Cream?? You'll also find http://www.australianhomemade.nl/ the 'Australian Homemade Icecream' (& chocolates) chain of stores all over NL, but chats to their staff and a perusal of their website seem to indicate that they have nothing to do with Australia. In fact, the websites makes the startlingly hilarious claim that 'Australian Homemade ice cream and chocolates come from traditional recipes prepared in the outback'!! Yeah, right... in a traditional outback airconditioned room, with milk from traditional outback dairy cows, I presume!!
