Hej Aussies och välkomna!

This page is a collection of websites and some information about life in
Sweden. The aim is to give my fellow Aussies a starting point in their quest to visit or settle in the land of the moose. Yes, despite my very Swedish sounding name, I’m an Aussie (from Adelaide). Unfortunately, I don’t have the resources to help find work, education opportunities or housing for newcomers to Sweden. Nor can I offer direct assistance regarding work or residency permits, or other passport-related issues. Instead, I try and provide an exhaustive list of links where you can find answers to most of your questions.

This is not a fixed site. I try and update regularly and check for broken links and am open to any suggestions for things you’d like to see added. Most of the information and topics are based on the most commonly asked questions I get asked. If you’d like more on a certain topic, feel very free to ask. I don’t bite – really!

I hope that browsing through here may give you a start in exploring your new country and some insight into things Swedish. Many people think of
Sweden as a small, rustic, cold country far away to the north, but there is far more to this fascinating place than ice, snow, moose, herrings, vodka and ABBA. Life here can be rich and varied, and yes, even FUN!

If you can help by gathering information about
Sweden, suggest any links or any other information, please contact me at marie@coolabah.com.

      A FINAL WORD

YOU KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN IN SWEDEN TOO LONG WHEN....

AND FINALLY, REMEMBER THAT...

YOU’RE NOT ALONE IN SWEDEN…
To get a list of other Australians Abroad members living in Sweden, you can go to “Find an Aussie” section here and do a search for either the whole country or by your area (remember that some town names will have different spellings eg Malmö, Malmo, Malmoe). More than 1,400 Australians have been lured to Sweden with the promise of fresh herring, blonde beauties, and high taxes. We are spread out all over the country. By far the greatest concentration is in the “big 3” Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö. But we also have members in Alvesta, Boden, Bollnäs, Botkyrka, Borlänge, Borås, Botkyrka, Degerfors, Eksjö, Enköping, Eskilstuna, Falun, Finspång, Forshaga, Grythyttan, Gränna, Götene, Halmstad, Helsingborg, Huddinge, Jokkmokk, Järfälla, Jönköping, Karlskoga, Karlskrona, Karlstad, Kiruna, Kristianstad, Kävlinge, Leksand, Lindesberg, Linköping, Ljungby, Ljudsal, Ludvika, Luleå, Lund, Marstrand, Motala, Norberg, Nyköping, Nynäshamn, Nävekvarn, Sala, Skövde, Sorsele, Stenungsund, Södertalje, Söderköping, Sundsvall, Trollhätten, Tyresö, Tyringe, Uddevalla, Umeå, Uppsala, Vadstena, Vagnhärad, Vänersborg, Västerås, Växjö, Åre, Ängelholm, Örkelljunga, Örebro, Östersund, Östhammar and Överkalix.

WANT TO PLAN AN EVENT FOR AUSSIES IN SWEDEN?
Post a message at “The Pub” and see what you can get organised. Or you can email others directly through the site and arrange an event. Or check out with the local Aussie club in your area.

When it’s all set, don’t forget to post it on the calendar!

FINALLY… THANKS!
Many thanks to the wonderful Kate Juliff, for her invaluable work in setting up this page.  While I have collected many of these sites during my stay here, several were suggested by fellow Aussies here at AA. I’d like to especially thank Faye and James Taylor, based in Dalarna, who have the Oz Swedes site. They provided many links, suggestions and James provided some much needed technical know-how.
